ما هي  الأفعال الاصطلاحية؟		What are phrasal verbs?
1 – الفعل الاصطلاحي هو فعل مع حرف جر أو ظرف والذي يعطي معني مختلفا عن الفعل الأصلي		1.  A phrasal verb is a verb plus a preposition or adverb which creates a meaning different from the original verb.
مثال:
تراجع السيد / حبيب عن تعليقاته حول الاجتماع		Mr. Habib took back his comments on the meeting
2 – بعض الأفعال الاصطلاحية هي أفعال لازمة، والفعل اللازم هو الذي لا يمكن أن يتبعه مفعول به		2. Some phrasal verbs are intransitive. An intransitive verb cannot be followed by an object.
مثال:
انتبه ، هناك شاحنة قادمة		look out, there is a truck coming
3 – بعض الأفعال الاصطلاحية هي أفعال متعدية، والفعل المتعدي هو الذي يمكن أن يتبعه مفعول به		3. Some phrasal verbs are transitive. A transitive verb can be followed by an object.
مثال:
اعتنى محمد بأخيه		Mohammed looked after his brother
4 – بعض الأفعال المتعدية تكون قابلة للفصل، حيث يأتي المفعول به بين الفعل وحرف الجر.		4. Some transitive phrasal verbs are separable. The object is placed between the verb and the preposition.
مثال:
ألغى والدي النزهة بسبب المطر		Because of the rain, my father called the picnic off
5 - بعض الأفعال المتعدية تكون غير قابلة للفصل، حيث يأتي المفعول به بعد حرف الجر.		5. Some transitive phrasal verbs are inseparable. The object is placed after the preposition.
مثال:
إنهم ببحثون الأمر		They are looking into the matter
6 – يمكن أن يأتي المفعول به في كل من الموضعين السابقين مع بعض الأفعال المتعدية		x6. Some transitive phrasal verbs can take an object in both places.
مثال:
-         جمعت شيخة الإجمالي في ذهنها		- Shaikha added up the total in her head - Shaikha added the total up in her head
7 – يجب وضع المفعول به بين الفعل وحرف الجر إذا كان المفعول به ضميرا		7x. The object must be put between the verb and the preposition if the object is a pronoun.
مثال:
إنها خطة جيدة، لننفذها		It is a good plan, let us carry it out
لا يوجد نموذج أو معادلة منطقية لتعلمها، حيث أن العديد من الأفعال الاصطلاحية له أكثر من معني مصطلحي واحد. الحل وحيد هو حفظها في الذاكرة		There is no pattern or logical formula for learning them, as many phrasal verbs have more than one idiomatic meaning. The only solution is to memorize them.

يمكنك تعلم المعاني المختلفة تبعا للفعل الرئيسي، علي سبيل المثال: get in,  get on, get off, get out                    get over,  get rid of, get up		You can learn different meanings according to the main verb, for instance: get in,  get on, get off, get out           get over,  get rid of, get up
